Extremity Pain Treatment

Joints of the body can lose their normal motion and position leading to symptoms of pain, swelling and loss of normal function. Many people are surprised to learn that joint pain in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand and knees, ankles and feet, can often be helped by Chiropractic care.

Proper motion is essential for proper function.

When joint function is impaired, this means there is a reduced range of motion present which will lead to inflammation and pain and eventually the formation of scar tissue and excess calcium buildup (osteoarthritis). This can be caused from repetitive motions, improper sitting, overexertion, slips, falls, accidents, and other causes. Awareness of these types of problems has become more common with terms like ‘tennis elbow’, ‘runner’s knee’, ‘frozen shoulder’, and ‘carpal tunnel syndrome’.

The traditional treatment of these problems can involve physical therapy, splinting the joint to reduce movement, pain medications, muscle relaxers, steroid injections and sometimes, unnecessary surgery.

What else can be done?

Today, a more common sense approach is being taken. Joint mobilization, like Chiropractic care for the spine, is being used in the care of extremity pain. Helping to restore normal range of motion and normal articular function to joints that have become ‘locked-up’, ‘jammed’, or injured, improves biomechanical and neurological function, blood circulation, reduces scar tissue formation and speeds up the healing process.
